If you are reading this, there is a good chance you just got an email from the Louisiana Department of Insurance telling you that you were selected in the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program lottery. Congratulations. Now here is what to do next.

What the Grant Covers

The LFHP grant pays up to 10,000 dollars toward the cost of replacing your roof to IBHS FORTIFIED standards. This is not a loan. You do not pay it back. To use the grant, you must work with an approved FORTIFIED contractor. The contractor completes the installation, submits the IBHS certification documentation, and the grant funds are applied directly to your project.

The Insurance Savings That Come With a FORTIFIED Roof

Under Louisiana Regulation 136, your insurer is required to offer you a discount on your homeowner's premium for having a FORTIFIED designated roof. Depending on your carrier and location, that discount can range from 16% to over 40%. The grant is the door. The insurance savings are what you walk through every year after.
