Cool air enters low through your soffit vents. Hot air exhausts high. A passive turbine only moves air when the wind decides to blow. A solar attic fan moves air whenever the sun is out, which in South Louisiana is exactly when the attic is at its worst.

It switches itself on at 85 degrees and off at 70, and a separate humidity sensor brings it on at 75 percent humidity and off at 60 percent, so it works your moisture problem in the winter too, not just your heat problem in the summer.

A cooler house. Less heat pushing down through the ceiling means the AC cycles less to hold the same temperature.

A lower bill. Your air conditioner is the largest electrical load in your home. Anything that makes it run less shows up on the statement.

How many does a house need

It depends on your attic square footage and the height at the center of the attic. Most Acadiana homes need one or two. Larger homes with tall attic volume need three or four. We size it during the assessment and tell you the number. We do not sell you a fan you do not need, for the same reason we will tell you your roof does not need replacing when it does not: we make money either way, so the honest answer is the only one worth giving you.

This fan carries a TAS 100(A) stamp. TAS 100(A) is the wind driven rain test the FORTIFIED standard requires for every roof vent, so this fan is an option on a FORTIFIED roof, including our FORTIFIED Shield replacement.

IBHS does not certify individual products. Your FORTIFIED evaluator reviews every vent on the roof as part of the designation, and this fan is built to pass that review for both wind load and wind driven rain.

Why Have Your Roofer Install It

A solar attic fan is a hole cut in your roof. That is worth saying plainly.

Whoever installs it is cutting through your deck, your underlayment and your shingles, and then sealing that penetration against wind driven rain in a state that gets named storms. Done wrong, you have traded an attic heat problem for a leak directly over your insulation.

The fan was tested to ASTM E 330 by PRI Construction Materials Technologies of Tampa, Florida, and held 300 pounds per square foot of negative pressure with no failure. It carries Florida Product Approval FL30888-R2 for model 30W1900, rated to a 150 pounds per square foot design pressure.

Does a solar attic fan need to be wired into my house?

No. The fan runs entirely on its own solar panel, so there is no wiring into your electrical panel and no operating cost.
